Party Media Compares Xi to Deng

Mainland media outlets are celebrating the 110th anniversary of Deng Xiaoping's birth, and comparing Xi Jinping to Deng.
Another mainland editorial draws Xi Jinping-Deng Xiaoping parallels
President Xi Jinping identifies with the political legacy of reformist leader Deng Xiaoping, says an editorial on Xi’s leadership published online by the official People’s Daily Overseas Edition.

It’s the second commentary the party’s mouthpiece has published online within two weeks that compares Xi’s leadership to that of the late state leader, who opened the country to the outside world in 1978 and pursued economic reforms.....

It was no coincidence that, in one of his first acts after he took the role of party general secretary in 2012, Xi Jinping decided to visit Shenzhen for his first inspection trip. Political observers said it was symbolic of his determination to be a reformer like his father.

On the TV series: Chinese TV series on former leader Deng Xiaoping offers rare glimpse of turmoil
So viewers here were shocked when state broadcasters began airing a 48-episode docudrama on the life of China’s former paramount leader, Deng Xiaoping, including periods of political turmoil that have rarely before been broached so publicly.

......The show’s producers, however, limited their focus to the period of 1976 to 1984, which neatly sidestepped two major controversies of Deng’s life: his purge and fallout with Mao as well as the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown.
To broach either of those two subjects would be a major shift in Chinese politics. Instead, the series focuses on Deng's historic, crucial and successful reform efforts——and the opposition pitted against him.

Wink wink, nudge nudge.
